The Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), in their effort to relate to the healthcare industry more closely, organized a meet that examined the progress of healthcare in Northeastern India. CII, a non-government, non-profit organization plays a proactive role in development of India by assisting industries in advisory and consultative processes. The organization has over 65 offices in India, a presence in over 101 countries and serves as a reference point for Indian industry & international business community.
The seminar was organized at Taj Bengal, Kolkata on the 30th of August, 2007. Running with the theme “Towards Creating a Global Healthcare Hub”, the conclave included a strong representation from the North Eastern states and a host of industry suppliers to the region. SRIT acted as an associate sponsor of the seminar and was represented by Dr. P S Ramkumar, Executive Director – iHCg.
Dr Ram addressed the existing complexities in the healthcare value chain and elucidated the need for health system entities to integrate and connect through adaptive technology for meeting the increasing demand for information and its management. He also presented the benefits of ICT through demonstrating a citizen friendly continuum between preventive & curative care, value-based revenue and resource sharing among collaborators.
Representing the healthcare IT industry, at the meet, were major companies like GE, Wipro and Philips who presented on capabilities ranging from HIS solutions to medical equipment. The healthcare provider industry was also well represented with the presence of establishments like BM Birla and Apollo Gleneagles, who cater to the demand of top-of-the-line medical services generated by the North Eastern states. Providers took the opportunity to present their specialties, state-of-the-art technology and facilities.
The seminar focused on the present health care scenario in the North East. Government representatives from the region focused on the scope of improvement and development of healthcare facilities, setting a prelude to what partnerships could deliver in the future of health systems. Dr. Ram substantiated their view by presenting the concept of a collaborative service platform for integrating healthcare programs.
