Sobha AppliedDSP with partners to facilitate passenger information services on private buses

Announces FleeTrac, an integrated tracking and communication service for vehicles to provide real-time passenger-information system

Sobha AppliedDSP Pvt. Ltd, Chennai-based subsidiary of Sobha Renaissance Information Technology Pvt Ltd (SRIT) along with Chennai-based Dhanus Technologies and Kerala-based Kiran Technologies have entered into an MoU with the Kerala State Private Bus Operators Federation to provide real time 'passenger information services' on private buses in the state.  Shobha AppliedDSP will be the exclusive technology partner to the consortium of service providers, supplying all the Telematics Equipments for this project. The project will be implemented and executed by Dhanus Technologies and locally coordinated by Kiran Technologies.

Under the project, christened ‘FleeTrac’, the transport owners will provide Telematics Services to their passengers. The services include Real Time Tracking of the buses using Telematics Technology. A LED display screen installed in the bus would display in English and Malayalam scheduling details such as the location, next stop, the distance and time that would take to reach their destination and so on. The screen would also be used to display both static and dynamic advertising contents including audio. The device will help bus owners to identify speeding, route diversion and schedule cancellation. It will also help the operators to check wastage and to optimise their fleet operations.

Under the MOU, Shobha AppliedDSP will supply all hardware equipments and firmware including VTS (Vehicle Tracking Device), LED display and LCD panel. Dhanus will provide their standards based Telematics Service, 'FleeTrac'- an integrated vehicle tracking system that provides passengers information on multiple media, including SMS, using a Centralised Network Operating Center.

Speaking at the occasion, A. K. Abdulla, President, Kerala State Private Bus Operators Federation, said, “We have chosen Dhanus Technologies and Sobha AppliedDSP among other vendors on account of their technical and domain expertise on vehicle tracking system. The passenger information systems that we would be installing in buses would be a boon both for the passengers and for the bus operators who would benefit from the real time tracking information system. In addition, this system would be extremely useful at times of breakdowns and accidents and will also keep a check on bus speeds; thereby reducing road accidents and increasing the passenger safety.”

The initiative will also provide a new avenue for the advertisers to reach their target customers through static and dynamic advertising content; including audio visual elements which can be displayed in the buses.

The consortium plans to install the system in over 20,000 buses in next one year. Dhanus has given proposal to Kerala State Transport Corporation (KSRTC) for the installation of the system and is in talks with various other States like Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Delhi.
